Ghanaian residents in New York show support for Akufo-Addo at UNGA 78

Ghanaian citizens based in New York in the United States of America rallied at the United Nations headquarters on 20 September 2023, to show their support for President Akufo-Addo and to acknowledge his leadership amid the economic challenges Ghana is experiencing.

The President is in New York at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and the high-level political forum of the UN under the theme: “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress and Sustainability for All”.

President Akufo-Addo delivered his national statement to the UNGA on Wednesday, 20 September with a call on the big global powers to reform the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to give the rest of the world a say on global issues other than the permanent members (powerful few) such as the US, China, Russia, UK, and France.

President Akufo-Addo also used his address to make a passionate call on the need for reparations to be paid to African and African countries who were hugely impacted by the transatlantic slave trade.
