REASSERTING A SENSE OF HOPE FOR OUR FUTURE LEADERS

REASSERTING A SENSE OF HOPE FOR OUR FUTURE LEADERS – The objective of a group of students and young professionals to mentor and ignite the interest of 25,000 Ghanaian teenagers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics within 5 years is what defines the uniqueness of Teen Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Foundation (Teen Lead Foundation).

FUTURE LEADERS

Established in 2017 by Augustina Osabutey, Teen Lead Foundation mentors and coaches teenagers to achieve their career goals.

The Foundation has over the years organized “STEM Careers Conferences”, “Coding and programming Classes”, “Talks on STEM Careers Programs” and “Environmental management and protection programs” for teenagers.

Currently, the Foundation can boast of 12 committed members, who are into diverse fields in STEM careers.

Although the Foundation does not remunerate any member, the passion to catapult our peers and younger ones in our communities to the apex destination of their academic and career life fuels our dedication to pushing the STEM agenda.

The goal to see teenagers achieve their careers goals motivates and compels the founder, Augustina Osabutey to save from her stipend (allowance) as a graduate research student to sponsor the greater percentage of Teen Lead Foundations programs.

FUTURE LEADERS

The team at Teen Lead Foundation is cognizant of the value of STEM in the development of an induvial, a nation, and the world. However, there is an under-representation of young people, especially girls (women), in STEM fields in Ghana. These can be attributed to the lack of early career guidance in STEM careers and female STEMinist role models and mentors.

Another known factor is the limitation in well-curated programs to improve young people’s access to information to make informed decisions about STEM-related programs and careers.

FUTURE LEADERS

Based on our motivation, mission, and vision, we have been implementing our unique annual STEM Careers Conference with a goal to mentor and ignite the interest of 25,000 teenagers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics by year 5 of our STEM Careers project in Ghana.

We have already successfully organized two of these conferences; the first was in 2017 and the second in 2020, all held in the Nzema East Municipality, Axim to be precise.

Our approaches include visiting various Junior High Schools (JHS) and/ or gathering them at a specific location and propagate the importance of STEM careers.

Specifically, we bring together over 15 resource persons with specialties and extensive experiences in STEM portfolios to share their journey, experiences, motivate and guide students on STEM programs and careers.

The students also engage with the resource persons through presentations, mentor and mentee breakout sessions, and live video programs, ask questions, and network.

Subsequently, the Foundation develops a STEM performance system and feedback mechanism between participating Schools and the Foundation to track the performance of the student in STEM subjects and provide the needed support.

Our 2021 STEM Careers Conference under the theme “Stimulating the Interest of Teenagers in STEM” is scheduled to take place on the 23rd and 24th September 2021 in Ayinasi in the Ellembelle District of Ghana.

To organize a successful conference and to equip our younger generations with stupendous information, we humbly appeal to all well-meaning people, companies, etc., to support us in pushing this agenda.
