Ghana and Bahamas to agree on visa-free system for all passport holders

Ghana and the Bahamas have agreed to deepen cooperation through the introduction of a visa-free regime for all passport holders of the two countries.

The deputy minister for foreign affairs, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong led a Ghanaian government delegation to hold discussions with the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Philip Davis, to review bilateral relations. They also discussed issues of interconnectivity among others.

Present at the discussion were Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, minister of information and Yofi Grant, CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and Bahamas’ First Lady Ann Marie Davis.

The meetings were also used to discuss the maiden Ghana-Bahamas Investment Summit.

Davis said his side is committed to signing the visa exemption agreement.

The Ghanaian delegation also participated in the maiden Ghana-Bahamas Investment Summit, which was held under the auspices of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) in Nassau in the Bahamas.

The aim of the summit, which was part of the Diaspora Connect Roadshow – Caribbean was to reconnect with the people of African descent in the Bahamas in particular and the Caribbean as a whole.

It was used to showcase the economic and investment potential of both countries to strengthen and promote economic bilateral relations between Ghana and the Bahamas in the spirit of South-South cooperation.

This Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong said was the surest way to create prosperity and improve the living standards of the people of the two countries.

He expressed concern about the low trade volumes between the two countries and was optimistic that the summit will brainstorm on steps to bolster trade and investment for the benefit of the two countries.

He applauded the establishment of the Africa-Caribbean Trade Mission in Accra aimed at facilitating a connection between the Bahamas and Ghana.

“The centre, we believe, will create the enabling environment for partnerships between the two business communities in various sectors of our respective economies, especially in the areas of tourism, fashion, and textiles,” he added.
