Ghana beat Nigeria on penalties to clinch WAFU B Tournament

On Saturday night, Ghana’s goalkeeper Afi Amenyaku became the standout performer as Ghana beat Nigeria in a nail-biting penalty shootout to win the inaugural WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup of Nations championship.

The game took place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Amenyaku’s remarkable goalkeeping skills came to the forefront as she saved three Nigerian penalties, securing a decisive 3-1 victory in the shootout after a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

Black Princesses captain Stella Nyamekye, demonstrated her leadership by opening the scoring in the 37th minute with a well-converted penalty kick, giving her team the much-needed advantage.

However, Nigeria managed to equalise in the dying minutes of regular time, setting the stage for the dramatic penalty shootout.

Ghana won the shootout, setting off celebrations that likely will last well into the night.
