The maiden edition of the Africa Energy Technology Conference 2023 has been launched in Accra to help address the challenges in the energy sector across the African continent.
The international conference is under the theme: ‘’Africa at the Forefront of Energy Technology and Policy Integration in a just energy transition’’.
Speaking at the launch on Wednesday (21 June) in Accra, a deputy minister of energy, Herbert Krapa, said the growing demand for access to energy in Africa requires the scaling up of technology to meet the rapid growth.
Krapa said, “Demand for energy in Africa keeps rising, and if energy systems in Africa will grow to meet this rapidly growing demand … we need to rely on technology; technology that is efficient, reliable, resilient and affordable.”
“Access to energy represents one of Africa’s greatest obstacles to socioeconomic development,” he added.
Emelia Akumah, the founder and president of the Africa Energy Technology Centre, said the conference will explore some modern technologies to address challenges in the energy sector and ensure that the energy transition is carried out objectively.
She said: “Together, we will explore cutting-edge technology, discuss policy frameworks, and address the challenges that lie ahead. It is my wish that within these engagements we will unlock the doors to realizing Africa’s vast energy potential.”
Akumah said: “We believe that a just energy transition is not only about technology and innovation but also about ensuring that the benefits and responsibilities are shared equitably.”
“We strive for an energy future that leaves no one behind, that uplifts communities, and that drives economic growth and sustainable development across the continent. The Africa Energy Technology conference will be a testament to our shared commitment to achieving these goals,” she added.
“… It is our collective effort to pave the way for a sustainable and inclusive energy future for our beloved continent.”
The highly anticipated Africa Energy Technology conference will take place from 8 to 10 August 2023 in Accra.
The three-day conference and exhibition is expected to serve as a platform for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
The Africa Energy Technology Conference will witness a convergence of industry leaders, visionaries, and innovators from across Africa and beyond.
