Meet Marian Boatemaa Appiah, 23-year-old Chartered Accountant

Marian Boatemaa Appiah, ACCA, CA. has proven that age is just a number when it comes to achieving one’s aspirations.

Marian has always wanted to be a professional accountant and was determined to make it happen.

As a 16-year-old who had just completed High School and aspired to be a professional accountant, she decided to pursue the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) program which would provide her with both an academic and professional qualification and gain an added advantage over her peers with a dual qualification.

“We are getting to the point where we are bridging the barrier of whether this is a male-dominated career or this is a female-dominated career. It has to be more of a personal decision where when you put your mind to something, you achieve it regardless of your gender. From the onset, I just had this zeal to become an accountant and that was what influenced my decision to read business in school and how to get to the highest level of the accountancy profession” She said.

Marian currently works with the Business Process Solutions unit of Deloitte Ghana performing bookkeeping and payroll activities as well as preparing financial statements for clients in various sectors.

She further opted for the Oxford Brookes University degree where she gained her Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Accounting after successfully completing her Research and Analysis Project.

Having completed her second level of ACCA, in 2019, she undertook her National Service at the Ghana Audit Service where she participated in the audit and reviews of client accounts.

Marian further worked as an Accounts officer in an engineering firm, Adzepa EPC Limited, after her National Service.

Then came June 2021 when she became an Affiliate of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and later in the same year, she was admitted into membership.

Again, in 2021, she assumed a new role as an Accounting Associate at SCG Chartered Accountants.

In April 2022, she gained membership to the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) in addition to her qualification.

Marian was recognized as the youngest ACCA member in Ghana and one of the youngest across the world during the ACCA Future Members’ Awards and Special Recognition held on 11th November 2022.

She joined Toastmasters International to develop her public speaking and communication skills. She currently serves as the Vice President of Public Relations in her club.

She is also passionate about personal development, innovation, and growth and looks forward to exploring all the opportunities associated with this path she chose.

Marian who is now 23 years also aspires to make an impact by utilizing her experience to better grasp emerging trends and challenges that will benefit businesses.
