Meet Valerie Ashley, Chief Executive Officer of Hervolution

Valerie Ashley is the founder and CEO of Hervolution, a business that offers a variety of beauty and wellness services, including hair styling, wig making, makeup, facials, mink lashes, piercing, massage, body scrub, pedicures, manicures, and frontal installations.

Located at Kokomlemle Faanofa Street in Accra, Valerie followed her passion to start her business despite discouragement from others, including her mother and former colleagues when she decided to quit her job at a law firm.

Valerie Ashley has a degree in Business Studies from Wisconsin International University College.

After quitting her job, she started “Hervolution” with limited capital but was motivated by her passion for the beauty industry.

“Most people will want to start businesses when they have a large form of capital. I didn’t want to get to that stage. I did have to start this business with what I had. So I had something small, and I just went for it.” she said.

Valerie initially provided in-home services because she didn’t have a shop. She shared that she once provided her services to the Ghana’s former Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood, who encouraged and inspired her. Eventually, she overcame the challenge of not having a shop and now operates from one.

Valerie believes in the importance of skill and expertise in her field and takes pride in being hands-on in her shop, where she personally performs various beauty services.

“I believe it is the passion that has gotten me to where I am. Most salon businesses are operating whereby the owners themselves don’t know how to do anything. but with me, I do everything myself. I know how to do everything here in my shop. That is what makes me stand out” she added.

According to her, her services have been beneficial to a lot of women who struggle with skin issues like acne breakouts and hyperpigmentation. Her expertise in providing facials has helped these individuals improve their skin condition, boosting their confidence and self-esteem.

Valerie is dedicated to helping others not only through her services but also by passing on her expertise to aspiring beauty professionals to make a positive impact on the lives of those she serves and educates.

“I also have students that I’m teaching as well and it has also helped them because I believe if you have a skill, it will take you very far. I want to open a beauty school, so that’s what I’m looking forward to doing very soon.”

Valerie’s story of pursuing her passion and starting her own business despite facing resistance from her mother and societal expectations is a testament to her determination and self-belief. This can serve as an inspiring example for others who have dreams and ambitions they want to pursue.
