Eeish Therapeuticals: Akua Boatemaa Oppong-Attah’s journey to skincare business

Akua Boatemaa Oppong-Attah is the Chief Executive Officer of Eeish Therapeuticals in Ghana. She is also a photographer and a mother to two beautiful kids. Her journey into a skincare business started from her own search for answers to her skin issues.

Personal Journey: Akua’s interest in skincare formulation began as a personal endeavor to find a solution to improve her dry skin.

“I had a very bad skin. My mum has really invested in my skincare but unfortunately, I have not been able to achieve good skin” she said.

Akua Boatemaa learned to make bath salts, bath bombs, and scrubs for relaxation. Her journey into learning more about the skin and caring for different skin types inspired her to create products that could benefit others.

Education: Akua Boatemaa Oppong-Attah holds a BSc in Public Relations from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ). She went ahead to pursue courses related to skincare formulation, including a Diploma in organic skincare formulation from Formula Botanica and various courses on aromatherapy, holistic organic skin care, herbs, and spices from Udemy.

She also went through the Introduction to Skincare Treatment course at Alison. This was to enable her to gain the needed expertise in skincare which eventually led to a business.

Business: Eeish Therapeuticals is a luxury organic skincare brand that offers a wide range of products, including bath salts, bath bombs, sugar scrubs, salt scrubs, body wash, body butter, facial sets, lip balms and scrubs, rosewater, and bar soaps, among others. Products are designed for kids men, women, and elderly folks.

FDA Registration: Akua Boatemaa decided to register her products after a successful trial on herself and others who had extreme acne issues.

Some of Eeish Therapeuticals’ products are registered with the FDA (Food and Drug Authority) and are still in the process of registering other products.

Akua Boatemaa has a production area on her property where products are made before being distributed to outlets and shipped to customers nationwide and worldwide.

Future Plans: Akua’s long-term vision includes establishing a school for skincare formulation where she can teach people the proper techniques, ingredient selection, and skin analysis required for creating high-quality skincare products.

She envisions empowering individuals to become estheticians and create job opportunities for themselves.

Market Reach: Eeish Therapeuticals has served a diverse customer base, including the locals in Ghana as well as individuals in the UK, USA, Canada, South Africa, Zambia, and more. The brand is known for its quality and effectiveness in healing and protecting the skin.

Entrepreneurial Spirit: Akua emphasizes the importance of being proactive and persistent in business. She believes in the concept of “Girlboss” where she urges young women to become self-sufficient. She also encouraged others to take charge of their entrepreneurial journeys.
