Spanish midfielder Aitana Bonmati has won the 2022 Women’s Ballon d’Or award.
The 25-year-old had a highly successful year, winning the Champions League and Spanish league with Barcelona and the World Cup with Spain.
Bonmati was also named UEFA Player of the Year in August.
She finished ahead of runner-up Sam Kerr of Chelsea and Australia in the Ballon d’Or voting.
England’s Mary Earps placed 5th, Rachel Daly 10th, while Millie Bright and Georgia Stanway were also nominees.
Bonmati scored 3 World Cup goals as Spain beat England in the final, but the win was overshadowed by controversy over the federation president kissing Jenni Hermoso.
Bonmati has now won 4 league titles and 2 Champions Leagues with Barcelona.
This was the 5th edition of the Women’s Ballon d’Or. Bonmati’s Barcelona teammate Alexia Putellas had won the previous two.
