Ghana: Afua Asantewaa concludes sing-A-thon at 126 hours, 52 minutes, awaits Guinness World Record verification

Ghanaian lady Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has determinedly finished off an attempt for the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual, exceeding the previous record set by India’s Sunil Waghmare.

Asantewaa started her musical marathon dubbed “afuaasantewaasingathon” on midnight December 24, 2023.

It was not an easy attempt as she almost lost her voice in some instances but stood tall incorporating various positions such as standing, lying down, sitting, and squatting while still singing.

She was allowed a 5-minute break each hour or a 20-minute break after 4 hours.

Asantewaa, fought through her challenges ending the marathon on Friday, December 29, 2023, at midnight, reaching 126 hours, and 52 minutes of singing without sleep.

Afua’s achievement eclipses the official record of 105 hours held by renowned Indian singer, Sunil Waghmare.

But her feat is yet to be officially verified by the Guinness World Records.

Asantewaa does not have a professional background in music but is passionate about music and wishes to put Ghanaian Music on a global stage.

Her Sing-A-thon which took place during the festive season has somehow elevated the Ghanaian music scene and the call for 80 percent play of local music.

There were top Ghanaian musicians, personalities, and supporters present to cheer her on.
