President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned Saturday’s assassination attempt on US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Donald Trump has returned to his home in New Jersey after he was injured in an attempted assassination at a rally on Saturday.
Shots rang out as he was speaking at the event in Pennsylvania, sparking panic in the crowd as Secret Service agents swarmed the former president.
Trump, who emerged with a bloodied face, says he was shot in the ear, describing a “whizzing sound” and feeling a “bullet ripping through skin”.
The male gunman was shot and killed by the Secret Service, and officials are expected to release his identity in the coming hours
Reacting to the development on X on Monday (15 July), Akufo-Addo wished Donald Trump a swift and complete recovery.
“On behalf of the government and people of Ghana, I condemn in the strongest terms the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump.”
“Such acts of politically motivated violence have no place in our world and undermine the principles of democracy and peace that we all hold dear,” he said.
“We send our heartfelt best wishes to President Trump and the American people during this difficult time, and we pray for his swift and complete recovery,” Akufo-Addo added.
