A group of Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officers stationed at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) have successfully completed a 12-week intensive Mandarin language course.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance communication and service delivery for Chinese nationals traveling to Ghana.
At a graduation ceremony held in Accra the officers were commended for their commitment to improving traveler engagement. With a noticeable rise in Chinese visitors fueled by growing business diplomatic and tourism links between Ghana and China the training is seen as a timely and strategic investment.
Regional Commander Edith Penelope Arhin emphasized the significance of the program.
The language course organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana was led by Professor Wang Jin Min. According to him the curriculum went beyond basic language skills to include cultural orientation.
The training also supported cultural exchange. While GIS personnel learned Mandarin Chinese students studying at the Institute were introduced to Twi one of Ghana’s widely spoken local languages creating a platform for mutual understanding.
As part of the ceremony officers demonstrated their new language abilities by holding live conversations in Mandarin proof of their readiness to put their skills into practice at the airport.
This initiative marks a forward-thinking approach in Ghana’s immigration strategy as the country continues to build bridges with global partners and ensure that all travelers feel welcomed and understood.
Further to this the step will among others improve communication with Chinese traders and business visitors promote efficient customs and logistics coordination lead to a boost in trade and tourism enhance security and risk management and strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations especially in these times.
