Howard University Appoints Lanisa S. Kitchiner, Ph.D., as Inaugural Associate Vice President for Global and Diaspora Engagement

Howard University has announced the appointment of alumna Lanisa S. Kitchiner, Ph.D., as its inaugural Associate Vice President for Global and Diaspora Engagement.

Dr. Kitchiner returns to Howard with a distinguished career in international education and cultural diplomacy.

She most recently served as Executive Director of Harvard University’s Center for African Studies, where she managed operations in both Cambridge and South Africa, led sponsored programs, and directed fundraising initiatives.

Her extensive experience also includes serving as Chief of the African and Middle Eastern Division at the Library of Congress, Director of Education and Scholarly Initiatives at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African Art, and Associate Director of the Ralph Bunche International Affairs Center at Howard University.

In her new role, Dr. Kitchiner will be responsible for coordinating and advancing the University’s global initiatives, with a particular focus on Africa and the African diaspora.

Her leadership is expected to play a key role in expanding Howard’s international presence and engagement.

Dr. Kitchiner’s appointment marks a significant step in Howard’s commitment to global connectivity and strategic partnerships.
