President Appoints Florence Adei Ohene as the second Deputy Managing Director of Consolidated Bank Ghana

President John Mahama has appointed Florence Adei Ohene as the second Deputy Managing Director of Consolidated Bank Ghana Ltd. (CBG).

The appointment not only adds a wealth of experience to the bank’s executive leadership but also positions CBG for more innovative and inclusive banking service delivery in Ghana and beyond.

Florence Adei Ohene brings to CBG more than 25 years of diverse experience in the banking sector, having worked across local and international financial institutions.

Her appointment is being hailed as a milestone in the advancement of women in top-tier financial leadership roles within Ghana. She now joins a high-performing executive team led by Managing Director, Dr. Naomi Kwetey, and first Deputy Managing Director, Sheila Azuntaba.

The trio at the helm of CBG represents a unique synergy of knowledge, vision, and leadership. Florence’s inclusion in the team is expected to enhance the bank’s ability to achieve its strategic objectives, especially in delivering exceptional value to its broad base of customers.

Proven Track Record at CBG and Beyond

Before her elevation to Deputy Managing Director, Florence Adei Ohene held several senior positions within CBG. Most recently, she led the bank’s International and Diaspora Business portfolio, a key strategic area where she spearheaded initiatives that significantly boosted engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora. Her performance in this capacity highlighted her capabilities in strategic development, relationship building, and business expansion.

Beyond her work at CBG, Florence has held executive roles at the defunct uniBank Ghana and built a robust international banking career in the United States. She worked with prestigious institutions such as JP Morgan Chase, PNC Bank, and SunTrust Bank, where she handled complex roles in Wealth and Investment Management, Corporate Banking, Strategy, Project Management, and Business Transformation.

Florence Adei Ohene’s academic achievements further underscore her qualifications for this new role. She holds an MBA from Georgetown University, a prestigious institution known for its emphasis on leadership and global business strategy. She also graduated Cum Laude with dual degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), reinforcing her strong academic foundation in finance and business management.

Her international education, combined with her rich professional experience, uniquely positions her to contribute meaningfully to the strategic direction of CBG, particularly as the bank seeks to expand its international footprint and digital banking services.

More than a banker, Florence is a vocal advocate for women’s economic empowerment and financial inclusion. She has championed numerous initiatives aimed at supporting women-owned businesses, particularly in accessing credit and financial literacy training. Her commitment to inclusive banking aligns strongly with CBG’s vision of being a truly transformative institution that touches all aspects of Ghanaian life.

This focus is expected to further influence CBG’s product development and community engagement strategies, especially in underserved and underbanked populations.

A Boost to CBG’s Transformation Agenda

The appointment of Florence Adei Ohene as the second Deputy Managing Director comes at a critical time for CBG as it continues its transformation journey. Formed in 2018 through the merger of five struggling banks, CBG has rapidly grown to become a vital player in Ghana’s banking sector, with a vision of becoming the most trusted bank for both individuals and businesses.

Her leadership will be instrumental in steering new initiatives, strengthening stakeholder relationships, and delivering impactful, customer-focused banking solutions.

Florence Adei Ohene’s elevation to the executive leadership of CBG is a resounding affirmation of her leadership credentials and a strong endorsement of gender diversity in financial leadership. Her strategic insight, international exposure, and passion for inclusive banking are set to inject fresh momentum into CBG’s operations.

As the bank continues to evolve, stakeholders across the financial sector will be watching with anticipation to see how her leadership shapes the future of CBG and contributes to broader economic development in Ghana.
