Ghana to Reopen Embassy in Washington DC on Thursday, 29th May 2025, Following Reforms

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana in a press statement has announced the reopening of its Embassy in Washington DC, United States of America, set for Thursday, 29th May 2025.

This follows a comprehensive restructuring exercise involving the recall of Home-Based Staff and suspension of Local Staff, initiated to address serious operational concerns.

A new leadership team, composed of seasoned diplomats and headed by an experienced envoy from the Ministry, has been deployed to the Mission. Their mandate includes a total overhaul of embassy systems, restoration of institutional integrity, and completion of ongoing structural reforms.

The embassy was temporarily closed in the US capital amid an investigation into an alleged visa scam.

In addition, an Information Technology (IT) team has been tasked with reconfiguring the Embassy’s website and payment platforms. The objective is to eliminate all unofficial and unauthorized links previously associated with the Embassy’s IT systems.

The Ministry has assured the public that measures are firmly in place to clear all operational backlogs and restore efficient service delivery. It also expressed regret for any inconvenience the closure may have caused.

The Ministry also confirmed that the circumstances leading to the Embassy’s closure have been referred to both the Auditor-General and the Attorney-General for further investigation and possible sanctions.
