The Ghana Diaspora Political Action Committee (GHPAC) congratulates Owura Sarkodieh on his successful performance in the Worcester City Council At-Large preliminary election.
Sarkodieh secured enough votes to advance to the general election in November, beating out four other contenders despite facing heavily financed candidates.
His success is a testament to the power of grassroots campaigning, persistence, and deep community engagement. Sarkodieh’s strategy of knocking on doors, listening to constituents, and prioritizing authentic connections has resonated strongly with Worcester residents.
This victory takes on even greater significance in light of Worcester’s dynamic immigrant landscape. The city is home to a vibrant Ghanaian community, which represents approximately 10% of its 37,000 foreign-born residents the highest percentage of Ghanaian immigrants of any U.S. city according to the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce.
In Worcester County, nearly 119,000 residents—or about 13.8% of the county’s population are foreign-born, underscoring the growing presence of immigrant communities in the region.
“Owura’s success is a powerful example of how persistent, hard work can overcome disproportionate advantages,” said Adjoa Kyerematen, President/CEO of GHPAC.
“He is the quintessential American story – a legacy built by immigrants. He is running a true grassroots campaign to see an inclusive pathway for fresh voices and faces among leadership in Worcester. Owura’s campaign is vital opportunity for greater inclusion in civic decision-making. For Worcester’s Ghanaian community, this is more than a campaign—it’s a journey toward recognition and a seat at the table.”

Owura-Kwaku Sarkodieh was born in Ghana, where he completed his elementary education, and has called Worcester home for more than 25 years.
He came to the United States to further his studies, earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a Juris Doctor from the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover.
As a father with children in Worcester Public Schools and a former substitute teacher, he is committed to ensuring every child has access to a high-quality education—one that empowers parents with both a voice and a choice in the classroom.
With his academic background in law and criminal justice, he is equally passionate about keeping Worcester’s streets safe, free from drugs and crime, as well as growing the foundation for small businesses to thrive. At a time when the same faces have dominated the City Council for over a decade, he offers a fresh perspective on the future of Worcester’s working class and a bridge to the next generation of leadership.
GHPAC officially endorses Owura Sarkodieh in his candidacy for the Worcester City Council At-Large seat in the November 2025 election. His track record of persistence and grassroots leadership reflects the values of public service, accountability, and inclusion that GHPAC champions.
“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of GHPAC. Your support reflects our shared commitment to building safer communities, stronger families, and lasting local prosperity,” said Sarkodieh.
“I’m committed to building a Worcester where opportunity, fairness, and accountability guide every decision. With your partnership, I am confident we can continue moving Worcester forward and ensure every voice is heard” he added.
