US Lifts Visa Restrictions on Ghana, Restores Five-Year Multiple Entry Privileges

The United States has officially reversed the visa restrictions previously imposed on Ghana, reinstating five-year multiple entry visas and expanding other consular privileges for Ghanaian applicants.

The development was confirmed during a bilateral meeting at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, personally conveyed the decision to Ghanaian officials.

The restoration follows months of high-level diplomatic engagement between Accra and Washington.

In July, the US government introduced strict visa limitations on Ghana and several other countries.

Under the restrictions, Ghanaians were only eligible for three-month single-entry visas.

The Trump Administration at the time justified the move as a response to long-standing concerns over visa overstays, particularly involving students.

The reversal marks a significant improvement in diplomatic relations and is expected to ease travel for thousands of Ghanaians to the United States.
