The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was received with great honour in Suriname, as the South American nation marked its historic 50th Independence Day.
The King touched down at JAP International Airport on Sunday, November 24, 2025, to a warm reception from top government officials and cultural representatives.
The Asantehene was invited by the Government of Suriname, which extended the honour as part of its golden jubilee celebrations.
His presence underscores the longstanding cultural connections between Suriname and the Asante Kingdom ties rooted in centuries of shared heritage and migration.
The historic gathering drew an array of distinguished leaders from across the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa.
In attendance were the President of Suriname, H.E. Jennifer Geerlings-Simons; the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Ir. Michael A. Adhin; the Prime Minister of Guyana; the Prime Minister of the Netherlands; and the Secretary-General of Caribbean States.
Also present were former Surinamese Vice President and ABOP faction leader Ronnie Brunswijk, members of the National Assembly, members of the diplomatic corps, and other prominent dignitaries.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s presence marked a significant moment in Ghana–Suriname relations, reinforcing ongoing cultural, diplomatic, and economic exchanges between the two nations and their respective regions.
