Ghana’s First Female High Commissioner to the UK Presents Credentials to King Charles III

Ghana’s first female High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sabah Zita Benson, has formally presented her Letters of Credence to King Charles III at St James’s Palace, marking the start of her official diplomatic mission.

The presentation ceremony is a key step in maintaining and strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and the UK.

Mrs. Benson’s appointment is historic, as she becomes the first woman to hold the position since Ghana gained independence in 1957.

Officials noted that she is also the first Ghanaian High Commissioner to be received by a British monarch at St James’s Palace since 1910.

During the ceremony, Mrs. Benson highlighted her commitment to promoting trade, cultural exchanges, and other areas of cooperation of mutual interest between the two countries.

She also spoke of her pride in representing Ghana at this senior diplomatic level.

Ghanaian officials and supporters have described the appointment as a landmark achievement and a symbol of national pride, as well as a step forward for gender equality in diplomacy.
