The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is preparing to appoint two prominent Ghanaian cultural figures, model and entrepreneur Hamamat Montia and musician Wiyaala, as tourism ambassadors to help promote Ghana’s culture, heritage, and indigenous products on the global stage.
The initiative forms part of a renewed strategy by the GTA to rebrand Ghana’s tourism image, particularly by leveraging influential personalities who resonate with younger audiences and have strong digital and international appeal.
Speaking on the matter, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, Abeiku Santana, disclosed that both personalities have already been engaged by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Gomashie, and will officially assume their roles after a formal commissioning.
He explained that Hamamat Montia will be commissioned specifically as a tourism ambassador for shea butter, highlighting Ghana’s natural skincare industry, women-led enterprises, and traditional beauty practices.
Her work aligns with promoting local products that connect culture, wellness, and tourism.
Wiyaala, known for her strong cultural identity and international music career, is also expected to use her influence to showcase Ghana’s rich cultural heritage through music, fashion, and visual storytelling to global audiences.
The planned appointments come at a time when Ghana is exploring innovative ways to strengthen its tourism appeal, particularly through culture-driven narratives to boost international tourism.
