US-based Ghanaian filmmaker Kobina de Graft – Johnson founder of Anibok Studios, is helping lead a new wave of Ghanaian storytelling with the successful New York premiere of his film KING OF TƐMA during Ghana Independence Week.
The event brought together members of the Ghanaian diaspora, creatives, entrepreneurs, and supporters of African cinema to celebrate the growing global interest in Ghanaian films.
The premiere reinforced a powerful message: there is an audience for Ghanaian cinema.
Kobina, who produced and directed the film, said the event was an important milestone for Ghanaian filmmakers seeking to share authentic stories with international audiences.
“The response showed that people want to see Ghanaian stories on the big screen,” Kobina said. “We are building a community that supports and celebrates these stories.”
KING OF TƐMA is part of Kobina’s broader vision through Anibok Studios to create a platform for Ghanaian filmmakers and storytellers.
Following the premiere’s success, Kobina has already begun development on his next project, From Ghana With Love, a romantic drama exploring identity, culture, and second chances through the story of a Ghanaian American woman navigating life between New York and her heritage.
With growing support from audiences both in Ghana and the diaspora, Kobina believes the future of Ghanaian cinema is bright.
“We are just getting started,” he said.
