Ghana and South Korea have signed a visa waiver agreement allowing holders of diplomatic and service passports to travel between the two countries without a visa, in what both sides describe as a significant step forward in bilateral relations.
The agreement was signed by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and South Korea’s Foreign Minister, Cho Hyun, on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa–Korea Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
Officials confirmed that discussions will continue with the aim of extending visa-free access to holders of ordinary passports in the future.
This marks the first visa waiver agreement between the two countries in nearly five decades of formal diplomatic relations.
Mr Ablakwa said the deal reflects progress on key bilateral priorities following the working visit of Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, to South Korea earlier this year.
Both governments are expected to continue talks on broader mobility and cooperation measures as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.
