African digital creators were given a greater role in discussions about the continent’s future at the first Africa Mindset Reset Forum in Kigali, Rwanda.
The forum, hosted by the African School of Governance (ASG), took place from 25 to 26 August 2026 and was attended by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and former South African President Thabo Mbeki.
About 80% of participants were young leaders, while 34 digital creators travelled to Kigali through a partnership between ASG and Influencer Africa.
Among them were Emilien Bejuandem Tengungwoh, KALIGBE Roxane Lidwine, Meryem Belkihel, Kemigisha Fiona, Alum Scova, Turamuhawe Christine Joy, Léna Habib Mbaye, Redemptha W. Nsanzugwanko, Eyoel Abrham Talargie, Theshaya Naidoo and Joshua Boye-Doe.
The creators took part in discussions on governance and development and shared key debates with their audiences across Africa and the diaspora.
The partnership began with a session known as the “Creatorthon”, which brought creators together with policymakers and other forum speakers. The session helped them prepare for the discussions while giving policymakers an opportunity to hear directly from young Africans.
Organisers said digital creators are no longer simply promoting brands. With large audiences and influence across borders, they can help explain complex policy issues and bring young people’s views into public debate.
The forum focused on moving beyond discussions about African unity towards practical solutions, with young people playing a central role.
Organisers said the involvement of digital creators would also help carry the ideas discussed in Kigali into wider public conversations across the continent.
