The University of Ghana has advanced 114 places in its actual rank in the 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, marking a significant improvement in its position among universities worldwide.
The university is now placed in the 801–1,000 global ranking band, according to THE. The 2027 rankings cover 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories.
The University of Ghana says the latest results place it first among universities in Ghana and second in West Africa. It is also among the top 20 universities in Africa and one of 25 African universities placed in the global top 1,000.
The university’s strongest performance was recorded in the research environment, where it ranked seventh in Africa. It also performed strongly in the industry category, placing among the top 10 universities in Africa.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings assess universities using 17 indicators grouped into five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry.
The 2027 rankings provide an international measure of university performance. While the University of Ghana’s published position is reported within the 801–1,000 ranking band, THE says the university’s underlying actual rank improved by 114 places compared with the previous edition.
