A 15-year-old Ghanaian boy, identified as Javits Frimpong, has been shot dead in the Bronx borough of New York City.
The teenager was shot shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, near East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont neighbourhood.
According to reports, Javits was walking to school when the shooting occurred. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police are reportedly searching for three teenage boys, believed to be between 16 and 18 years old, in connection with the shooting. The suspects were described as wearing black clothing and blue surgical masks.
Javits’ father, Thomas Frimpong, has raised concerns that alleged bullying at his son’s school may have been connected to the fatal shooting.
Speaking to local media, the father said his son had previously complained about being bullied and that two students had been suspended following an incident involving him.
He also disclosed that the school’s principal had contacted him a few days before his son’s death regarding the situation.
However, police have not established any connection between the alleged bullying and the shooting. The motive for the killing remains unclear.
Javits reportedly moved from Ghana to the United States about a year ago to reunite with his father and pursue better opportunities.
As of Friday, October 30, 2026, no arrests had been announced, as investigations continued.
His death has left his family devastated and raised concerns about youth violence and the safety of schoolchildren in the United States.
