APD 2025: AfCFTA has the capacity to deal with regulatory bottlenecks affecting Africa’s power sector – Francis Anatogu

The CEO of Trans International, Francis Anatogu, has indicated that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), has the capacity to deal with all the regulatory challenges power producers face on the continent in their bids to provide enough energy for the continent’s growth and development.

Speaking as a panel member at the Africa Prosperity Network’s organised conference dubbed Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025, under the theme ‘Delivering Africa’s Single Market through Infrastructure’, Anatogu said that though challenges in the power sector exist, AfCFTA has the necessary framework and platforms to dealing with them.

“There may still be a lot of regulatory concerns hampering Africa’s power sector growth, AfCFTA has that capacity to address these challenges” he stated.

“AfCFTA was put in place to help deal with the bottlenecks and gaps affecting member countries. Power generating entities must take advantage of these platforms to help in building on existing power infrastructure” he further explained.

Francis Anatogu also held that though these platforms are in place, power generating entities have failed to utilize them for their own growth. He, therefore, urged them to seek advice and guidance from the AfCFTA Secretariat on the matter.
