Ghana, Zambia sign visa-free travel agreement to boost African travel

Ghana and Zambia have agreed to allow their citizens to travel between the two countries without a visa.

The announcement came during President John Mahama’s official visit to Zambia, where he met Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema in Lusaka.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the arrangement is intended to promote trade, tourism, and cultural exchange, while also easing travel for students, entrepreneurs, and workers.

The agreement removes long-standing administrative barriers that have previously restricted movement between West and Southern Africa.

Officials described it as a significant step towards African integration and regional connectivity.

Analysts say the visa-free arrangement could boost business, tourism, and professional exchanges, while encouraging collaboration in education and technology.

President Mahama said the deal reflects Ghana’s commitment to African unity, while Zambia aims to strengthen its role as a regional hub for trade and investment.
