Ghana’s US Ambassador Urges Investors to See Country as Production Base

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has called for stronger economic ties between Ghana and the US, saying Ghana should be seen as a place for production and investment, not just a market.

He made the call at the US–Ghana Trade and Investment Mission held in Accra from June 1 to June 5, 2026. The event brought together government officials, business leaders, investors and members of the diaspora.

Ambassador Smith said investments should focus on creating jobs, sharing skills and supporting long-term growth. He added that Ghana wants partnerships that bring real economic results.

According to him, Ghana is working to attract more investment through economic diplomacy and wants to strengthen its role as a gateway to Africa.

He highlighted key sectors for cooperation, including technology, aviation, agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy, finance, infrastructure and skills training.

The ambassador also called on the Ghanaian diaspora to play a bigger role in development through investment, mentorship and business support, not only remittances.

He said Ghana’s stability, young population, growing digital economy and access to the African Continental Free Trade Area make it attractive for investors.

He encouraged US businesses to use Ghana as a base for production and expansion into Africa.

“Do not see Ghana only as a market. See Ghana as a production base and a launchpad into Africa,” he said.

The mission aims to strengthen trade and investment ties between Ghana and the United States.
