A teenage tennis player from Telford is set to represent Ghana at the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Africa Group III event in Gaborone, Botswana.
Sixteen-year-old Gwendolyn “Gwen” Klu, has been selected for Ghana’s national women’s tennis team, the Diamond Rackets, for the prestigious international team competition.
The tournament, taking place from 13 to 18 July 2026, brings together teams from across Africa, with nations competing for promotion opportunities within the Billie Jean King Cup structure.
Gwen has trained at the Ellesmere College Tennis Academy for the past three and a half years and has represented Tennis Shropshire at county level. She has also built international experience through junior competitions and has achieved an ITF junior world ranking.
The teenager’s performances, including a strong showing at a junior tournament in Accra, helped bring her to the attention of Ghana’s tennis selectors.
Born in England to a Ghanaian father and French mother, Gwen holds dual nationality and said she was excited by the opportunity to represent Ghana on the international stage.
