Q&A:
What do you do in your current job? I recently transitioned from the public sector as legal counsel and executive director for the Secretary of the State’s Office, State Board of Accountancy and Division Director of the Business Recording Unit into the private sector as a senior manager in the risk and regulatory affairs practice for a professional services firm. My current role is the perfect integration of law and compliance. I am responsible for providing internal guidance in addressing a variety of regulatory issues. I was nominated for this award for my work at the Secretary of the State’s Office.
What are your goals in your current job? My goals are to become an industry expert and to provide sound legal and compliance guidance.
What’s your biggest passion? My fervor for being an advocate for social and economic change in the world has propelled me to help people in communities in need. In addition, I enjoy teaching and inspiring people to become the best they can be, which is why I have served as an adjunct professor for over 10 years.
What are your future professional aspirations? I hope to continue to grow professionally by becoming a subject matter expert in national and international compliance. I am a lifelong learner and enjoy being in an academic setting; as such, I look forward to one day having a post-retirement career in academia.
How are you involved in the community? I enjoy serving the Greater Hartford community, particularly by fundraising for local nonprofits. I am a member of several women’s organizations, including the Greater Hartford of the Links Inc. and Jack and Jill Chapter of Greater Hartford. I have had the pleasure of running the United Way Campaign for the Secretary of the State’s office and increased donor giving by 50 percent. In addition, I participate in voter registration and organ donation drives and volunteer at my son’s school.
If you were governor of Connecticut for a day what is one policy you’d push to improve the state’s future? As a former state employee and manager, I am passionate about the future of Connecticut. It is imperative that we address the fiscal debt of the state of Connecticut, without harming our society by taxing people out of the state or drastically cutting services to those who need it the most. I think there should be more focus on improving the private sector. We cannot continue to price young Millennials out of the market, thus creating a self-imposed brain drain. We have to find a way to become more attractive to young families by lowering taxes and sustaining the middle class.
List four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty: I was the legal counsel/executive director for over five years of the Connecticut State Board of Accountancy and created dramatic improvements in the enforcement and licensing of the profession. I serve the community via my volunteer and fundraising efforts. I was a member of the Leadership Greater Hartford class of 2012 and a member of the 2016 class of the Governor’s Aspiring Leaders Program. I have served as an adjunct professor of economics for over 10 years, currently at Capital Community College.
