Ghanaian footballer Raphael Dwamena dead

The football community in Ghana is reeling from the devastating and untimely death of national team striker Raphael Dwamena at only 28 years old. Dwamena collapsed on the pitch during a match on Saturday between his club KF Egnatia and Partizani in Albania’s top division league. Shocking video footage captured the tragedy as Dwamena fell to the ground in the 24th minute before players from both teams immediately rushed to his aid. Medical staff hurried onto the field to attend to him and an ambulance came to take him away, but sadly he could not be revived.

The Ghana Football Association announced Dwamena’s tragic passing in a statement offering condolences to his family and praising his dedication to representing the national team. Though no official cause of death has been released yet, the abrupt collapse chillingly echoes a similar terrifying incident in Austria in 2021 when Dwamena collapsed during a match but eventually recovered.

Dwamena was an up-and-coming talent in Ghanaian football, playing for clubs in Spain, Switzerland, Austria and Denmark over his promising career after competing at the international level for Ghana. Spanish club Levante, where Dwamena previously played, paid tribute and expressed profound condolences at the devastating news of the young 28-year-old striker’s sudden death. The unexpected loss of the seemingly healthy athlete in the prime of his life has sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian football community and saddened fans worldwide. The tragic on-field death of the rising national team star has broken hearts across Ghana.
