Police exhume body of woman killed by son over GHC500

The remains of a 60-year-old retiree of the Ghana Highway Authority, Mercy Oforiwa, who was allegedly killed by her son, Gideon Asomani has been exhumed in an uncompleted building at Kyekyewere, a suburb of Nyamekrom in the Eastern Region, the police said.

Asomani Addo was initially arrested for iron rod theft but confessed to the murder in his statement. Oforiwa was declared missing on 17 June 2023.

The police, accompanied by the suspect and other family members, visited the crime scene to verify the alleged burial site for the subsequent exhumation of the deceased to help in the investigation.

The exhumation was done on Wednesday (13 December).

The decomposed body has been deposited at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua for autopsy and further preservation.

According to the suspect, he allegedly pushed his mother in the heat of an argument over GHC500 and her head hit the wall and died.
