Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to grace this year’s Fetu Afahye

The Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Akwasi Atta II, has extended a formal invitation to the Asantehe, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to attend this year’s Oguaa Fetu Afahye.

This invitation was extended on Thursday, 4 July during the Asanteman Council meeting held at the Manhyia Palace.

A delegation from Oguaa, led by Sanaahen Nana Kweku Yensu I, and notable figures such as Charlotte Osei, the former Electoral Commission boss, who is this year’s chairperson of the Afahye planning committee and other prominent chiefs and queens, presented the invitation.

The invitation of Otumfuo underscores the deep-rooted ties between the traditional authorities of Oguaa and Asanteman.

The Oguaa Fetu Afahye is an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Cape Coast on the first Saturday of September every year.

Before the festival, all drumming and noise making activities are banned as tradition demands, as well as fishing in the Fosu Lagoon.

This year’s festival promises to be historical, given the expected attendance of the Asantehene.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is expected to grace the climax of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye on Saturday 7 September.

The participation of the Asantehene in this event is a testament to the harmonious relationships that exist among the various traditional authorities in the country.
