Tourism Ministry sets record straight on official name, reaffirms role of creative arts

In a statement issued on July 14, 2025, the Ministry confirmed that its legally recognised and correct name remains the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, with MoTCCA as the approved abbreviation.

The Ministry noted that several variations have been used in recent times, including Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC), Ministry of Tourism & Culture, and Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts, with inconsistent ordering.

These names, according to the Ministry, have appeared across news outlets, public platforms, and even in some official documents, causing confusion and misrepresentation.

The statement, signed by Ms Mabel Delassie Awuku, Head of the Public Relations Unit, explained that the reaffirmed name reflects the Ministry’s original designation at the time of its formation.

Ms Awuku added that the inclusion of “Creative Arts” speaks to the Ministry’s broader role in supporting tourism, cultural heritage, and the creative industries.

“This name goes back to the Ministry’s inception and captures its full scope tourism, culture, and the creative arts,” she stated.

Ms Awuku called on media houses, government agencies, and the general public to use the correct name in all formal references, to maintain clarity and accuracy in communication.

She said the Ministry remains focused on promoting Ghana’s cultural identity, growing the tourism sector, and supporting artists and creative professionals.

Ms Awuku urged all stakeholders to take note of the clarification to avoid further errors in future reports and engagements.
