Ghana has launched its December in GH 2026 campaign, seeking to attract tourists from across Africa and the diaspora to the country during the festive season.

The initiative was officially launched at Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on 20 October, under the theme “Ghana to the World”.

The campaign aims to showcase Ghana’s culture, tourism attractions and creative industries, while creating economic opportunities for local businesses.

Tourism Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie urged the public to focus on the experiences Ghana has to offer rather than debates over the terms “Detty December” and “December in GH”.

She also encouraged visitors to explore attractions across all 16 regions of the country, rather than concentrating solely on the capital, Accra.

The festive season has become an important period for Ghana’s tourism and entertainment sectors, attracting visitors for concerts, cultural events and other activities.

Organisers hope the initiative will extend the benefits of seasonal tourism to musicians, fashion designers, hotel operators, tour guides, food vendors and other businesses.

One of the events scheduled for December is the inaugural African Festival of Arts, Culture and Creativity (A-FESTA), due to take place from 9 to 11 December in collaboration with AUDA-NEPAD.

The campaign forms part of wider efforts to strengthen Ghana’s international tourism profile and ensure that the economic benefits of the festive season reach communities across the country.
