A total of GH₵76.5 million has been released to support Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The disbursement to Ghana’s senior national football team, authorised by the Ministry of Finance, comes in two parts and is aimed at ensuring the team’s smooth participation in the tournament, which is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The first tranche, amounting to GH₵58.9 million, the cedi equivalent of US$5 million, has been released as an advance payment to cater for the team’s preparations and costs associated with their participation in the group stage of the tournament.
The second tranche, totalling GH₵17.5 million, the cedi equivalent of US$1.49 million, represents the settlement of outstanding qualification bonuses owed to the players and technical team.
The bonus payment forms part of a performance-based agreement reached with the team during the qualifying series, under which the players received 50 per cent of their bonus during the qualifiers, with the remaining 50 per cent contingent on the team’s successful qualification for the World Cup.
The Black Stars secured their place at the global showpiece after topping Group I of the African qualifiers, finishing the campaign with 25 points from 10 matches.
They have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
A press release announcing the release of the funds said it was a demonstration of its commitment to providing the team with the resources needed to compete at the highest level, and called on Ghanaians to continue rallying behind the Black Stars as they pursue success at the tournament.
