Ghana’s ambassador has urged stronger African unity and cooperation, outlining the country’s diplomatic and economic priorities at a meeting of African heads of mission in San Marco.
Mr Nii Amasah Namoale said Ghana was committed to advancing shared African development goals, describing the Group of African Heads of Mission as one of the most cohesive blocs in international diplomacy.
Speaking at the meeting on 23 June 2026, he said unity, solidarity and mutual respect remained central principles for addressing continental challenges and ensuring Africa’s voice is better represented globally.
He highlighted Ghana’s appreciation to African Union member states for supporting its initiative at the United Nations seeking recognition of the historical injustice of the trafficking and enslavement of Africans as crimes against humanity. He said Ghana had also hosted a high-level consultative conference in June 2026 to discuss how the resolution could be implemented, including through reparative dialogue and remembrance initiatives.
The ambassador also outlined domestic policy priorities under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, including the “Big Push” infrastructure programme aimed at expanding roads, energy, education and healthcare systems, as well as a 24-hour economy policy intended to boost productivity, industrialisation and job creation.
He noted Ghana’s endorsement of President Mahama as its candidate for the chairpersonship of the African Union Commission, describing it as a reflection of confidence in his leadership and commitment to African integration.
Mr Namoale said Ghana remained open to investment and was working to create a more enabling environment for trade and innovation. He added that the embassy, in partnership with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, will host an “Investing in Ghana” webinar series in August 2026.
He also extended goodwill to African countries participating in the ongoing FIFA World Cup, praising their performances as a source of continental pride.
The meeting ended with a call for continued unity and cooperation among African states.
