Accra has been ranked 18th in a global list of the best cities for nightlife in 2026.

The Ghanaian capital was one of only two African cities to feature in the top 20, according to a ranking by Time Out.

Accra was recognised for its mix of bars, nightclubs, live music and alternative entertainment, with genres including Afrobeats, electronic music, alté and R&B contributing to its nightlife culture.

The ranking also highlighted the city’s social atmosphere, with many residents describing Accra as welcoming and saying it was relatively easy to find a sense of community when going out.

The areas of Osu and East Legon were identified as key nightlife districts.

Johannesburg was the highest-ranked African city, coming seventh.

Bangkok took the top spot in the global ranking, followed by Berlin and Melbourne.

The list was based on responses from more than 24,000 people, alongside assessments by Time Out editors and nightlife and culture experts.

Accra’s inclusion reflects the Ghanaian capital’s growing international profile as a centre for music, entertainment and nightlife in Africa.
