GHANAFEST New York annual celebration set for August 13

GHANAFEST New York is set to celebrate its 13th annual public celebration of Ghanaian culture and heritage on August 13th, in New York, U.S.

The cultural gala is expected hold at 1700 CROTONA PARK, between CROTONA AVE AND CLAREMONT PKWY from 12noon to 6 pm.

Ghanaian musicians such as Kwabena Kwabena, Edem, Wuza Wuza, Bigtwins, and Infame Ota among others are expected to perform.

The Festival which was launched on 30th April for the first time in Ghana was a long-reflected plan of the organizers to involve the locals in the festival’s promotion of the country’s cultural legacy.

Although the festival in the last 12 years has stately represented the Ghanaian culture and heritage in New York in the United States (U.S.), it was the first time the organizers are bringing the enthusiasm close to the motherland.

The event is organized annually by the National Ghana Parade Council (NGPC), formed by its founders from Ghanaian communities in the U.S. states of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut who banded together to float the organization.

Their vision birthed the annual ‘Ghana Festival-New York.’ Every year in the summer, the Ghana Festival-New York resonates a grand ceremony in Crotona Park in the Bronx, in New York City.

At the launching in Accra, president of the NGPC and executive of the Ghana Festival-New York, Catherine Cudjoe, widely known as Keymama, was commended for her efforts in bringing the communities together through her selfless work in the Diaspora and Ghana.

The festival has for over a decade promoted nothing less than unity, building capacity, generation of practical ideas, and the mobilization of resources to support Ghana’s development initiatives.

Every year, thousands of individuals from all over the United States and the world attend the diaspora event, including foreign direct investors and admirers of culture.
