ExxonMobil, a major US oil company, has reportedly started talking to the government about coming back to Ghana, according to Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
ExxonMobil informed the Ghanaian government in May 2021 that it was leaving the nation’s upstream petroleum sector, where it had been conducting exploration since securing the necessary rights in 2018.
However, according to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the parties are moving closer to a reconciliation.
“Exxon Mobil plans to return to Ghana. We have already begun discussing, which is interesting because God didn’t place the oil and gas there for us to ignore. Let’s move forward if that means we need to hone our abilities and undertake more carbon extraction, he said at the time.
