Shandong Gold pledges to pour first gold in 2024 and construct new airport in Bolgatanga

The General Manager of Shandong Gold Group, parent company of Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd, has assured Ghana’s government that it remains committed to pouring its first gold at the Namdini project by end of 2024.

This assurance came during a visit by Ghana’s Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, to Shandong Gold Group’s headquarters in China. The minister urged the company to accelerate construction on the Namdini mine.

Jinapor is in China for a major mining conference and met with Shandong leadership on Wednesday. The company said its strategic plan has always been to pour gold in Q4 2024 and they are working to deliver.

The Namdini project is currently under construction after relocating communities last year. It is projected to produce 1.1 million ounces of gold in the first three years, becoming Ghana’s third largest mine.

Shandong’s General Manager said Namdini is a very important project and they aim to replicate green mining practices there. Discussions are also underway to construct an airport in Bolgatanga to improve transportation access.

Jinapor said the government will provide full support to ensure gold is poured early next year, as Namdini is crucial for Ghana maintaining its lead gold producer status in Africa. He urged Shandong to expedite work and give its Ghana team necessary support.

Ghana’s ambassador to China also committed the embassy’s support to ensure Namdini meets its 2024 target. Jinapor was accompanied by the Chair of Ghana’s Minerals Commission and Parliamentary Mines Committee.
