The “Crashed Plane” at Aburi Botanical Gardens: What’s the Real Story

Aburi Botanical Gardens, located in Aburi in the Eastern Region of Ghana is one of Ghana’s most popular tourist attraction.

People visit to have picnics, relax under trees, take photos, go for walks, ride bikes, among other things.

But there is one unusual thing that often catches people’s attention, an old, rusty aircraft.

For years, some visitors and locals have said a plane crashed at the gardens.

But there are no official record of any crash happening there.

The aircraft is an old military helicopter. It was transported there after it had already been retired from service.

It was moved to the gardens in the 1970s during the government of Ignatius Kutu Acheampong.

Over time, the helicopter got old, rusty, and started missing parts.

That made people believe it was the remains of a crash.

The helicopter was meant to be a fun and educational display for visitors, especially children.
