…As he ends tour of duty
Staff of the Ghana Embassy in Washington DC, have praised His Excellency Lt. Gen. Joseph Henry Smith, out-going Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, describing him as a head of family, who put the family’s welfare and interest first.
The staff said through Ambassador Smith’s tenacity, attention to detail and his commitment to Ghana’s engagement with the United States, the Mission was able to achieve so much during his tour of duty.
“Your slogan, Security, Sacrifice and service changed our mentality and our orientation towards duty and helped us put “Ghana First” as you have always told us” the staff said.
Ambassador Smith thanked the staff for the support and cooperation they gave him since his arrival in Washington and asked them to do same to the next head of Mission.
The occasion also marked the end of the tour of Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Skido Achulo and Defense Attaché, Brig. Gen. Seidu Mumuni Adam.
In a citation on a plaque presented to H.E. Lt. Gen. Joseph H. Smith (Rtd.), the Mission said “In appreciation of your loyal and meritorious service as well as the inclusive leadership. As Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of Ghana spanning the period October 2014 to January 2017, you inspired, motivated and elicited the best from each individual Officer towards the achievement of our highest ideal – Ghana First”.

“Thank you for being such an amazing Leader”.
The citation for Mr. Skido Seidu Sullman Achulo read, “In recognition of your distinguished service and loyal devotion to our highest ideal, you have been a great team player and inspirer whose calm but focused orientation made team work an enjoyable enterprise. In the short period, August 2015 to January 2017, you did your noble part as Deputy Chief of Mission”.
Brig-Gen. Seidu Mumuni Adams’ citation read, “In recognition of your distinguished service and loyal devotion to our highest ideal. You served our colours honourably in the United States. By your gentle and highly adorable Christian conduct, you also served as a spiritual mentor and counsellor of the Mission. Your period of service spanning October 2013 to January 2017 is very much acknowledged and appreciated”.
Present at the reception to see Ambassador Smith off was the Ghanaian Community made up Council of Ghanaian Associations (COGA), Ghanaian Lawyers Association and Council of Ghanaian Interfaith Association.
Also present were some prominent Ghanaians in the Washington, Virginia and Alexandria area.
His Excellency, Lt. Gen. Joseph Henry Smith, the out-going Ghana’s Ambassador would be remembered for bringing all Ghanaian Associations together and particularly, for encouraging interfaith cooperation and friendship.
