South African Singer Tyla and Epic Records launch $50,000 music scholarship for young women

South African singer Tyla and Epic Records have launched the “That Girl” Music Scholarship to support young women pursuing music and arts-related degrees in South Africa and selected locations in the United States.

The programme will award $5,000 each to 10 students, with six scholarships allocated to applicants in the US and four to students in South Africa, according to the programme’s official website.

The scholarship is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and is intended to help recipients cover tuition fees and other mandatory educational costs.

Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements, including being at least 18 by the application deadline and having a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0.

In the US, applicants must be enrolled full-time in a music or arts-related degree programme at an accredited four-year college or university during the 2026–2027 academic year.

In South Africa, eligible applicants must either be enrolled full-time in a qualifying programme in 2026 or be in Grade 12 and planning to begin an eligible university programme in 2027.

Successful applicants will also receive two tickets to a Tyla concert and an opportunity to meet the singer.

Applications are due by 30 October 2026, although the programme may close earlier if 50 eligible applications are received.

The initiative aims to expand educational opportunities for young women pursuing careers in music and the arts.
