Ghana begins preparations for paralympic taekwondo in Paris

Ghana is gearing up for a monumental challenge as it embarks on its journey to secure a spot in taekwondo for the prestigious 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, which are scheduled to take place from 28 August to 8 September 2024.

The stage is set for the African qualification tournament which commenced on Thursday (8 February), 2024.

The event ends on 9 February 2024 and is being hosted at the Dakar Arena in Senegal.

Led by seasoned coach George Ablometi, Team Ghana will be represented by two talented para-athletes, Patricia Kyeremaa and Emmanuel Kofi Turkson.

Kyeremaa will showcase her skills in the K44 +65 kg category, while Turkson will demonstrate his prowess in the K40 +75 kg category.

In parallel, the African qualification tournament will host an Olympic qualifier from 10 February to 11 February, 2024.

Ghana’s contingent for this event, under the guidance of Coach Augustus Agbozo and comprising Eunice Omolara Adedapo (-57 kg), Henrietta Naa Ayele Armah (-49 kg), Benson Addo (-58 kg), and Michael Davidson (-80 kg), will be looking to book their place at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which are set to kick off from 26th July, 2024 to 11th August, 2024.

However, a shadow looms over the team, as Davidson is currently not with the team in Senegal. The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) cites financial constraints hindering Davidson’s travel.
