The United States has announced plans to fast-track visa applications for Ghanaians intending to travel to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the US, Canada and Mexico.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the decision followed bilateral discussions between Ghana and the US aimed at addressing long delays in visa appointments.
According to Mr Ablakwa, the new arrangement is intended to ease travel for Ghanaian football fans and officials, many of whom have expressed concern about securing US visas in time for the tournament.
He said the agreement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen diplomatic and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The US Embassy in Accra is expected to provide further details on the implementation of the expedited process, including eligibility requirements and application procedures.
The 2026 World Cup will be the first to feature 48 teams and is expected to attract millions of visitors from around the world.
