April 19, 2015: In Memoriam of Theodosia Okoh

April 19 marks the anniversary of the passing of Theodosia Okoh, the designer of Ghana’s national flag.

Theodosia Okoh designed Ghana’s flag in 1957, the same year the country gained independence.

Her design featuring horizontal stripes of red, gold, and green with a black star in the center became the official national flag and a lasting symbol of Ghana’s identity.

She passed away on April 19, 2015, at the age of 92.

Each anniversary of her passing serves as a moment of remembrance of her legacy.

Every time the Ghanaian flag is raised, her work continues to speak for her.
