Cameroon win first WAFCON title

Cameroon won their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title after beating Malawi 3-0 in Sunday’s final in Rabat, Morocco.

Marie Ngah scored twice, while Naomi Ndjoah Eto added the other goal as Cameroon dominated the first half.

The victory ended Cameroon’s wait for a continental title after three previous final defeats to Nigeria in 2004, 2014 and 2016.

For Malawi, it was a historic debut campaign. The Scorchers became the first team to reach the WAFCON final on their first appearance and also secured a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Cameroon are now the fourth nation to win the women’s African championship, joining Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.
