Owusu-Oduro ranked 4th among world’s top young goalkeepers in CIES report

AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro has been ranked the fourth-best young goalkeeper in the world, according to the latest CIES Football Observatory study.

The 21-year-old, who is of Ghanaian descent, features in the top five of the global rankings for U23 goalkeepers published by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) on April 29.

The report places Owusu-Oduro behind Chelsea loanee Mike Penders at Strasbourg, Bayern Munich’s Jonas Urbig, and RC Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser.

CIES rankings are based on a statistical index that evaluates players using factors such as match performance, level of competition, and playing time.

Owusu-Oduro has established himself as a key figure at AZ Alkmaar this season, with strong performances in both domestic and European competitions.

The Netherlands-born shot-stopper remains eligible to represent Ghana at international level.
