Ghana’s Wendy Shay wins Best Female Artiste at AFRIMA

Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has won the Best Female Artiste, Western Africa award at the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held in Lagos, Nigeria.

The artist beat competition from several prominent musicians across the region, including fellow Ghanaians Amaarae and Moliy, as well as Nigeria’s Ayra Starr and Tiwa Savage, Ivory Coast’s Josey, Guinea’s Djelykaba Bintou, and Senegal’s Mia Guissé.

Speaking during her acceptance speech, Wendy Shay described the award as a significant milestone in her career. She thanked her fans, management, RuffTown Records, and digital distribution company OneRPM for their support.
The singer also paid tribute to Tracy Shay, a young dancer whose viral choreography to Wendy Shay’s song Too Late helped boost the track’s popularity across social media platforms.

Wendy Shay reflected on the challenges she has faced as a woman in the music industry, saying she had endured criticism and bullying at the start of her career. She encouraged emerging artists, particularly women, to remain resilient in the face of adversity.

The award adds to Wendy Shay’s growing list of accolades and highlights Ghana’s continued presence on the African music scene.

AFRIMA celebrates musical excellence across the continent and brings together artists from different regions of Africa.
